Pipe Bursting Services

Do you have a severely damaged sewer line that needs to be replaced? Do you want to avoid having to dig a huge trench in your property to unbury your sewer line to replace it? Trenchless sewer line repair and replacement services are one way to take care of the issue, however pipe relining requires that your current sewer line be in at least moderately good condition. What happens when your line is substantially worn out and can’t be replaced by a relining service? You may not be required to resort to digging up your property after all—a pipe bursting service could be the perfect solution.

Call Roth Heating & Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical at (503) 994-9924 today for more information about our trenchless pipe bursting services.

Pipe Bursting is still a trenchless method of sewer line replacement, meaning no giant trench and no extensive yard remodeling when the job is finished. However, it is a much more extensive replacement method that involves removing your old line completely. This is done through bursting, the process of literally tearing your current sewer line apart.

A bursting service begins with a camera inspection to determine if your line can be repaired by a pipe bursting and replacement service. While more lines will qualify for bursting, certain flaws such as collapsed lines, caved-in sections, or significant bellying and improper slope may still make a proper replacement impossible. As long as your line qualifies, our plumbers will clean your line with a hydro jetting service and prepare it for the bursting process.

Bursting involves digging two holes, one on either end of the damaged line that will be replaced, and feeding a winch line through your old sewer pipe. This line is attached to an extremely powerful, high-torque winch tool on one end, and on the other we place an extremely hard metal bursting head that’s slightly wider than the diameter of your old sewer line. Attached to the back of the bursting head is a brand new, flexible sewer pipe that will be pulled through by the winch as well.

Then the winch is turned on and the bursting head goes to work. The bursting head is pulled through your sewer line at a slow but steady pace. Because of its size, the head tears your old sewer line apart by bursting it at weak points. The new sewer line is immediately pulled through in its place because it is attached to the back of the bursting head. Once the bursting head reaches the end of the damaged line, it is removed and the new sewer line, which should now cover the entire length of the line that has been torn apart, is connected to your sewer and drain systems. The two holes are covered up, and the job is finished. In total, a bursting project usually takes about a day to complete, but may take longer for longer sewer lines.
