Leaky Humidifier? Here’s What May Be Causing the Problem

roth

While it’s not an uncommon problem, if you have a leaky humidifier, it’s probably because it hasn’t been properly maintained. Regular maintenance of your whole-house humidification system can ensure that all of the parts are in good working order and that it will operate as efficiently as possible, which also saves you money. By understanding the potential causes for your leaky humidifier, you may be able to easily take care of the problem yourself, as well as understand when the task is best left for the pros.

Potential causes

  • Water pressure: If the pressure of the water is too strong, this can cause your system to leak. In some cases, you may need to use a reducer to control it.
  • Backup in the drain line: For the water to drain out properly, the drain line must remain in a downward sloping position. You can flush the drain line out with water and then ensure that it’s going in the right direction to take care of this problem. Also make sure you replace your drain line every year.
  • Clogged water panel evaporator: When the water panel evaporator gets clogged, the scale control insert may get covered in residue that blocks the drain and prevents water from exiting. The scale control should be cleaned and the water panel evaporator should be replaced with a new one.
  • The water isn’t flowing in the right direction: Make sure the valve is set correctly. Most systems make this easy to do by adding something like an arrow pointing to where it should be.
  • Debris is preventing the solenoid valve from closing: To fix this, shut off the electrical power, turn off the water at the saddle valve and take the solenoid out. Remove the debris by flushing it with water, blowing it out or using your fingers.
